1 Year Later.

1 year ago, we were top of the world.

Sweeping the Invitational Pol-Ite Tournament and finishing as the second best school in the world in the World All Schools Championships. I knew we were good. I also knew we had to improve.

1 year later, the question is " Have we? "

For me, the answer is yes, but not enough. True, we consolidated our position as the top touch school in Singapore at the SHINE Tournament. It wasn't our best team, we had seniors guiding the rest in the junior team and people like Has and Taufiq missing the tournament. But we made it, barely.

The 2-1 win with five men on the field in the semis against TP, the sudden death 1-0 final win against SP. It showed our fighting spirit and pride, then again, it shouldn't had to come down to this.

Still there has been positives this year. Syahrein and Lewis making the effort to go for SRC Training in a bid to improve themselves and the team. Rahim and Mimi taking the initative to train the team. I appreciated all this efforts but I knew that experience was needed so when Gideon mentioned he was willing to coach, it was good as structure was added to training.

He has had a rocky road since he coached RP Touch, the lack of support from the hybrids ( cant be helped) and the school. But do remember that he is doing all this for free at the moment, he just wants to try his hand at coaching and most importantly, to improve you guys as a team and individuals.

The contact and touch issue has been a thorn for two years. The way to grow a nurturing contact team and further improve an established touch team has not yet been found. Contact Rugby is doubtlessly the more popular and established of both sports but RP Touch has been the roots of Contact and cannot be thrown aside like that.

I have fought for RP Touch all year though ultimately fruitlessly. I have had to quit as captain because of a clash of commitments and other factors. This post is getting a little too long. Point of fact is, as I looked at the Sexy Boys Team (Syahrein, Lewis, Leon, Dexter, Mimi) after my team won, how I wished they were in the final too.

1 Year ago, we had two RP teams in a final. why couldn't we have that happen again this year? The blame doesnt lie only on Sexy Boys, but a whole load of other factors. This issue needs to be addressed, lest next time we might not even have one team in the semis. Think about the problems and issues we have faced this year despite the successes. Will have a team meeting with you guys soon.

P.P.S - Update on Beach Touch - Babewatch came out tops while Sexy Boys did well to reach the semis.

P.P.P.S - Gideon's brother, Stephen was one of the five dragonboaters that drowned in the Cambodia accident. His body was found yesterday. Do offer your condolences to him.
